Meet The New Rider Vernice Wilson # 884

Being crafty in a fun kind of way is one thing Vernice does. Stained glass and teaching herself to sew are a couple of the things she enjoys. She started riding motorcycles when she was 14 yrs. old encouraged by her brother Mike. Florida allows Charlie, her husband and her to ride a lot and it is not uncommon for them to put 500 miles on the bikes on a Sunday ride. The Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge is something the two of them are planning to do along with their friend Brian.

She learned about the challenge searching the internet for a long distance adventure. It didn't take much to realize this was just what they were looking for.  Facing life's hardships with courage, honor and integrity, defending other who can't defend themselves with an "I won't give up attitude" on or off the battlefield is Vernice's idea of a Warrior. "It sounds so difficult," not knowing the route and just going where the wind takes you. Pretty sure she will be in tears before it's over but she is going to dry her tears and get on to the finish line.

Sleeping will be her biggest obstacle, so she has been doing a lot of research on tents and how to make sure she gets the rest she will need to make this a success. That little bit of security inside a tent verses laying on the ground under the stars is what she believes will help. She admits the security of having her husband and friend with her and knowing they will have her back is huge. "I've been known to get lost in a parking lot." But that being said she does not want to just ride on their coat tails and be led. She wants to an active participant knowing where they are and whether they are going the right way.  The adventure, although friends think their crazy, is really what is driving them.

Vernice's brother Mike who lost his battle with cancer and the first person to encourage her to ride was always a huge support of the Make a Wish America so in his honor she will be raising money for them.
