I’m Nacho #964, I'm going to be 51 when I ride my third Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge in August. Previously I finished 2020 and 2022. I’ve been anxious about riding this one to Alaska since I heard the rumor about the repetition of the 2010 route. And I heard it before the start of HH2020, so I rode my previous two challenges preparing for this one. Each challenge is different, for me the first one was painful, the second one was a breeze. That depends on preparation, experience, and expectations. My goals for the first challenge were going through the experience and becoming a finisher. For the second one I expected to have a great time. I was never disappointed.
Last year I participated in the 2023 Ironbutt Rally and also became a finisher (I'm Ironbutt #656)
Since my first challenge, I’m sometimes asked for tips, here is what I can tell you from my experience: Pack light, don’t take with you anything that you can find on the road. Drink water/electrolyte while riding, do not wait to stop to rehydrate. Eat little during the day (or not at all) then have a meal at night before sleeping. Respect speed limits and your limits, the challenge is about finishing.
If it is your first challenge, enjoy the ride, the places you are going to see, the experiences you are going to have will stay with you forever. I hope to see you on the road!
