Meet The Rider Chicken Joe Connors #842

Joe Chicken Joe Connors, Rider # 842My road name is “Chicken Joe.” I know. It was given to me by a biker friend in Alaska back in the mid '90's and just kinda stuck.Soon we will be on the road for another 10,000-mile run.

My first HHMC was in 2016, I really enjoyed it even though I got lost a lot. I have dyslexia and tend to misread the spreadsheet. S's look like 5's even before the sleep deprivation plays games with your mind. I did finish and it felt good. It is quite interesting what God has to say to me as I travel this Nation, especially on the HHMC. I’m a Church of God minister and often find inspiration in being on the road.Friends tell me I am getting too old to do this to my body. I’m 72 years old and diabetic, but accept the challenge to keep living life to the fullest. Hoka Hey, It’s A Good Day To Die!

2018 was a tough run for me and my scooter. The night before we started out something popped in the bike. For the rest of the Challenge it ran badly. Very badly. It took me 20 days, 5 HD dealerships, and one independent shop to complete the Challenge. At one point I considered quitting. God told me before the run that there would be problems, hardships, and frustrations. He also said “I did not raise up a quitter.” Keep your eye on the Prize" by Bruce Springsteen kept coming up on my playlist. I finally figured out the prize was to look through each curve, one at a time. Keep your eye on the prize, it isn’t here keep the faith and keep going. Keep your eye on Him. If it was easy, they wouldn’t call it a Challenge. One of the most rewarding things you will see is the Finish Line with your family and friends waiting for you to arrive. See you on the road, again!
