Meet The Returning Rider # 1165 Del Meyer Anderson

 

Well, here we are again—another Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge. It's hard to believe it's already that time! It feels like just yesterday I was a nervous wreck, wondering what on earth I'd gotten myself into. After the never-ending mishaps that came with my 2024 ride, I'm excited to give it another shot this year... hopefully with a few less setbacks. 

When I started riding back in 2006, I never could have imagined that one day I'd become the only woman to successfully complete the two biggest long-distance motorcycle challenges in existence (at least to this day). It didn't happen overnight. It came from years of taking small steps while chasing the thing I love most—riding motorcycles.

Like many riders, I started on a Honda 750 and spent years loving every mile on that bike. After my first cross-country trip, though, I knew it was time for something a little bigger. That's when my obsession with Victory Cross Countrys began.

My first one, "Mark," will always be my first true love. Together we spent countless summers exploring the country. We rode through National Parks, checked off the iconic motorcycle roads everyone dreams about, and eventually wandered to places that weren't on anyone's bucket list. From June through September, we'd simply point ourselves toward wherever the rain wasn't falling and see where the road took us. Those miles taught me more about myself—and about the world—than I ever expected.

Somewhere along the way, I realized I wanted to push myself even further. That's what led me into the world of long-distance Motorcycle challenges. They have tested me physically, mentally, and emotionally, and through them I've discovered a level of strength, resilience, and determination I didn't know I had.

The journey has also given me something I never expected: my best friend, who has since become my husband. I feel incredibly lucky to have found someone who shares my passion for getting knees in the breeze, and I'm excited that we'll both be taking on this year's Hoka Hey.

Before anyone asks... no, we don't ride the challenges together. We've found that's the safest way to stay happily married. 😉
