Martha “Marda” here. When I was 13, I came home from school, there was a Suzuki Enduro in the driveway, my dad tossed me the keys and said “figure it out”. Spent the next few years riding in and around the wheat fields of Kansas. 3 years later my brother rode that bike to the DMV so I could take the riding test at the same time getting my driver’s license. As life does what life does, The Great Lake State of Michigan has become my home. Good Gravy, I’ve had my endorsement for almost 46 years, where has the time gone?
Why the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge; why do mountaineers climb Everest, runners the Barkley, swimmers the Oceans Seven, tri-athletes Iron Man? It’s something inside that calls to us. The Hoka Hey will challenge me to my core, my being. Questions I’ve had thought out my life I hope to get answers or at least some clarity. A Challenge that will not break me but make me a better human being, August 2026 will tell if I can cash the check my mouth has been writing.
I am raising money for the 698+/- full & part time students attending Turtle Mountain College in Belcourt North Dakota located on the Chippewa (Ojibwe) Reservation of the same name. $400 is the average cost of books and supplies per student per year, 97% of the students are Native of which 68% are low income. The Elizabeth DeCoteau Memorial Scholarship Fund will help offset these costs. Donations may be made via credit card by calling 701-394-4315 Business Department or checks to be mailed Turtle Mountain College Attn: Business Office PO Box 340 Belcourt ND 58316 making sure to reference Elizabeth DeCoteau Memorial Fund.
