Meet The New Rider # 1140 Garland Arnett Jr.

My name is Garland Arnett, Jr., my friends call me Gar, rider #1140. I’m 56 and have been
riding since I was 18. I am a public defender in Kentucky and have been practicing law
since 1995. I have owned almost every type and brand of motorcycle available and
currently have 3 bikes, never being without at least 1 bike since 1987. I did my first log
distance ride in 2003, a saddle sore 1000, on a Hayabusa. I have been an MSF Rider Coach
and road raced motorcycles. In 2015, I started riding with Hoagy's Heroes and picked back
up the long distance bug. In 2023 I entered and completed/finished the Scooter
CannonBall Rally. I have other interests, but motorcycles are what really gets me going.

I’ve known about the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge since the beginning, but for varying reasons, just didn’t
enter when I had a Harley. Later at a Hoagy’s Heroes event, I met John Levins, Eric Buskell,
and Gabe Carrera. My interest in the Hoka Hey took off as I learned wat it was really about.
Since that time, I have met more Hoka Hey members than I have room here to mention.
And each and every time I meet another Hoka Hey rider, I want to complete the challenge
even more. Every thing about the challenge interests me. The different format from other
events, the complexity, yet simplicity, combined with the difficulty and endurance factors
are what draws me like a moth to a flame. I’ve always described distance riding as a zen
type thing for me. The Challenge embraces this spiritual oneness as part of, if not the true
essence of the Challenge. Finding one’s self in the ride. This is what I always look for and
seek to accomplish.

I will be riding in support of Hoagy’s Heroes. I have been working with Hoagy and the charity
since 2015. They do great work for great charities – Children of Fallen Soldiers, A Special
Wish Foundation of the Ohio River Valley, The Augusta Levy Foundation. It’s all for kids.
Hoagy’s Heroes donates 100% of monies raised to the charities. I have met many special
people through Hoagy’s Heroes that do many good things for children. That’s why I have
fully supported them for 10 years.
